Harro Höfliger erhält Validierung durch Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
Harro Höfliger has reached another milestone in its commitment to limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius: The company's greenhouse gas reduction targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) on a scientific basis. Both the short-term and long-term targets are therefore in line with the Paris Climate Agreement.
The latest scientific climate report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), described by the United Nations as “code red for humanity”, shows that it is still possible to limit the global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees with a collective effort. Harro Höfliger addresses the importance of rapid and deep emission reductions by committing to almost halving emissions by 2030 and achieving net-zero by 2045.
"Many of our customers place an ever-greater value on active climate protection, including their partners. As a company, we are pursuing clear, ambitious goals to counter climate change. The validation of these targets by the SBTi is an important milestone for us. It confirms our commitment to the EU Green Deal and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,” says Thomas Weller, CEO of Harro Höfliger. “We are determined to take an active role in the limiting of global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius and aim to reach net-zero by 2045.”
According to the GHG Protocol, greenhouse gas emissions are classified into three scopes. Scope 1 emissions are direct emissions from owned or controlled sources. Scope 2 emissions are indirect emissions from the generation of purchased energy. Scope 3 emissions are all indirect emissions that occur in the value chain, including upstream and downstream emissions.
The SBTi has validated the following reduction targets:
Short-term targets:
Harro Höfliger commits to reduce its absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50 % by 2030, starting from the base year 2023. The company also commits to reduce its absolute Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 42 % within the same time frame.
Long-term targets:
Harro Höfliger commits to reduce its absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 90 % by 2035, starting from the base year 2023. The company also commits to reduce its absolute Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 90 % by 2045, starting from the base year 2023.
Overall net-zero target:
Harro Höfliger commits to achieve net-zero across the entire value chain by 2045.
“The validation of our climate targets by the SBTi is the result of intensive work and comprehensive analysis. My team and I are proud of this achievement. Together with our colleagues, suppliers and customers, we will continue to work on reducing our emissions along the entire value chain and promoting sustainable business practices,” says Stefan Mayer, Director Sustainability & Compliance at Harro Höfliger. He emphasizes: ”We will continuously report on the progress we make towards achieving our climate targets as part of our sustainability reporting.”
