Microneedles

Imagine a plaster or patch with countless microneedles delivering an API directly beneath the skin. This innovative pharmaceutical form helps relieve migraine attacks more quickly. Vaccines can be stored and administered much more easily with microneedle array patches (MAPs). Sounds like the future? At Harro Höfliger, this is already reality in various projects. We contribute our know-how and resources to develop the devices and design the demanding production process. And we already have an eye on large-scale serial production during the lab phase.

Needle variants

Modular technology for individual applications

Microneedle systems all work on the same principle: The extremely small needles penetrate the outermost layer of the skin. The API is delivered into the dermis or enters the body through the bloodstream. Development teams and research institutions pursue various strategies for the application and delivery of APIs. With coated microneedles, the API dissolves in the skin. Hollow microneedles (HM) are suitable for administrating higher doses. There are also needles in which the API is embedded in a soluble matrix. It dissolve completely after application.
